Tony and I were given the opportunity to travel to Cuba in October with a group of people, mostly from San Fransisco. Everyone in the group was connected through a charity, called Terry's Kids. This charity helps kids get involved with music. Our large group brought many donations to some music schools in Cuba. These donations involved instruments, guitar strings, crayons, music stands...
The travel to Cuba was tiresome. It is a, "hurry up and wait" lifestyle, even starting in Miami! But once we finally landed, made it through customs and hopped on the bus, we had our first, amazing meal. We went to a Paladar, which is a private home that has been opened for a restaurant. Our first family style lunch was delicious appetizers, including croquettes then lobster tails! Of course we had our first servings of rice and beans.
For all of our lunches and dinners, we started with our complimentary drink, which was usually a mojitos. They were a novelty at first, then we were a little sugared out!
After a short bus tour, we went to our hotel, Hotel National de Cuba. This is a famous hotel and quite luxurious. The best things about this hotel was the HUGE veranda where we would sit every night and listen to music, the room was quiet and there was a variety of food for breakfast!
